Riding Our Brains Out

We have been riding our brains out! Wednesday we rode Spearfish Canyon. What a beautiful ride. The road is really good. The speed limit is 35 MPH, that is a nice riding speed on the twisty road. We had lunch at Cheyenne Crossing. We both got the Indian Taco. It was good.

On Thursday we rode Needles HWY. Thru Hill City. The town was full of bikes. We had lunch at the Alpine Inn. The food was good. We tried to ride the Iron Mountain road but it was closed due to a tour bus full of old people went off the road.
Hill city full of bikes.
It is starting to get really busy. This is the road on the way out of Deadwood at 10:30 in the morning.
Peggy and I on Needles Hwy. We have almost the same picture from when we were in 2009.

We stopped at the Boar's Den on our way back. There is a nice stream running by the back of the bar.
You see the strangest bikes here. This guy has 3 big air horns on his bike.
We are waiting for all our friends to get here, Jim and Lee Ann on Saturday maybe, They took a wrong turn and drove through downtown Chicago. Perry, Paul, and George and their wives on Sunday.
The weather has been great. It gets a little cool at night.

Sturgis!

We have been to Sturgis a couple of times and it is starting to get busy.
Ha this is really a building size poster of last year!
This is how it really looks. But it is getting busy a lot of bikes in town and all the vendors and bars are ready to go.
Here is our favorite Oasis bartender, Sandy.

We had dinner at Lewie's in Lead. The food was great! It's a huge bar with a nice deck to sit outside and watch all the bikes run by. See if you can pick out Peggy sitting on the deck.
This is our site until Wednesday, then we move to the one next to us. Is that crazy? This is an old park so the sites are small but long. We washed the big truck and right after we got back it started to rain. Luckily it just sprinkled. I made meatloaf on the BGE last night, it was good.

Deadwood!

We have moved to Deadwood for the Bike Rally!
The road to get here was not a lot of fun, it is under construction!

But we made it. I had to drive up on the hot asphalt to get around a manhole cover.
We drove to Sturgis to get our South Dakota Drivers License's. That was a lot of hard work. You have to have your old drivers license, US passport, SS number card, a receipt for the campground with both our names on it and prove you have a mailing address in the state. We got all that done and we have new license!
We did stop at One Eyed Jacks after we got our license I needed a Beer bad.
Oh I have a new favorite Bartender, Kelly!
It is hard to blog from here my Verizon hot spot does not work well, so I may not blog a lot.
But we love Deadwood. We had dinner the first night at the Deadwood Social Club, the food was great. We will eat there again.

Dogs and the Tower

We took the Big Truck into the Devil's Tower Park with the telescope to watch the climbers. It was pretty cool, we could see them nice and clear.
Looks really hard to climb. The way it was formed about 50 million years ago molten magma was forced into sedimentary rocks. As it cooled it fractured and formed into columns. Over millions of years, erosion of the sedimentary rock exposed Devil's Tower. The Tower rises 867 feet from it's base and stands 1267 feet above the river.
We parked in a pull off to set up the telescope. I think these people that are climbing are crazy!
And right behind us was a prairie dog colony. They are so cute.

Signs read "Do Not Feed The Prairie Dogs", Why not?
We got back and we were relaxing and we let Cliff out. He is such a good dog we do not tie him up. A few minutes later he was gone! We looked around the back of the RV and he was at the Dog Park, but the problem was he could not open the gate. It was really funny.

Spearfish Ride

We took the Big Dog on a run to Spearfish SD. It was a good ride.
Spearfish is a bigger town. They had a nice downtown. We stopped at the Back Porch Bar. The building is on the National Register for 1906.
We were dodging the rain all day, but we managed to stay dry. It was a little cool out, it only got to 70 degrees. On the way back we stopped at Buffalo Jump Saloon in Beulah, where we had an order of french fries that were killer. They have a swimming pool bar outside. It's a pool with a bar built around it. For the rally they are going to have girls in the pool serving beers.
Here is another cool place we found on our ride.
Keith, one of our favorite bartenders at the Ponderosa in Hulett.
This is in the Rodeo Bar in Hulett also. We met two people there who were on vacation from Auburn, Michigan.
After we got back the rain did come. We only got sprinkled on but here is a nice rainbow to the south of us.
The whole area is getting ready for the rally. Most of the bars have stages in the back. They all will have live music playing for the rally. In Sundance it will be "Burnout Wednesday." In Hulett it's "No Panties Wednesday". I think it also is the Devil's Tower Run on Wednesday too.

Big Thunder

We took a nice Big Dog Ride about 100 mile loop around Devil's Tower. We stopped in the towns of Sundance and Hulett WY. It was a nice scenic ride.
Here we are at the Ponderosa CafĂ© for lunch. The bartender at the Ponderosa was a very interesting guy from Pittsburg. He had tattoos all over his arms and long hair with a funny shirt, it said on the back "F!#K OFF We are Full" inside the map of  the united states.
Peggy got some good over-the-shoulder  shots.

We got back and had dinner then we sat outside and watched a BIG thunder storm roll in. The whole sky was lit up with lightning. There were still some climbers on the Tower, The rangers had to go up to rescue them.
Here is some of the aftermath from the storm. His wife TOLD him to roll up the awing, but he said it will be OK. So he was in BIG trouble.
We did take down our canopy. So I did not get in big trouble. Sometimes you just have to do what the wife says.

Devil's Tower

We have moved to the Devil's Tower KOA campground. It was 165 mile trip, we like that kind of drive.
We tried to go for a Big Dog ride today but the "LOW BATTERY" indicator kept coming on, so I turned around after about 10 miles. I checked the battery connections were all good. So I had to call the Big Dog Hotline, (which is not in India) Forest Cycle Works and talk to the best Big Dog mechanic in the world, Kirk. He talked me thru checking the voltage regulator and found that the plug from the voltage regulator was half unplugged. So I plugged it back in and we are all set to go.

Now lets look at the Tower, It is pretty cool. We can not see much of it from our camp site because of trees. We were hoping to see climbers on the tower from our camp site with the telescope.
We are right at the entrance to the park. It is backed up most of the day to get in. They only have one booth to pay to get in.
I did get a new biker shirt. One cool thing here is there is a US Post office right by the park. So we will be able to walk to get our mail later this week.

My First Rodeo

We went to the WYO Rodeo. It WAS my first Rodeo. We had a blast.

The flag was parachuted in the fairground by a truly brave war veteran that is a double amputee. He landed right in the middle.

This rodeo has the World Championship Indian Relay Race. They have to ride 3 different horses, around the fairground track. It was a wild race. To switch to a different horse was out of control.

The whole town of Sheridan and area are geared up for this Rodeo. It's a week long celebration.
Oh they had to have a Rodeo clown and it wasn't me.
You could tell it was my First Rodeo because our seats were behind a post. But we had fun anyway.
They even let women play in this rodeo. They ran the barrel race and they were fast.
Tonight they are closing the streets downtown and having a street party with two different bands playing at each end of the street. We are going to go downtown to have more fun.

The Coolest Sign

2002:: The Best Neon Sign I’ve Ever Seen

The coolest neon sign I’ve ever seen. The Mint Bar is the coolest thing about the great cowboy town of Sheridan, which is in a part of northern Wyoming that’s too cold and too remote for all the Californians to move there and ruin it. You wouldn’t want to say anything bad about John Wayne at the Mint. Real cowboys hang out there. They put pictures of cows on the wall. It’s a near-perfect place, and I hope it never changes.
Peggy got these shots this morning, just out from our rolling home.
The weather has been a little rainy today.
We made a trip to town to get a new coffee maker. My old one is a Keurig and it is starting to act up, so out it goes. The coffee is too expensive anyways. Later this week we are going to stock up on food for our next stop at Devil's Tower. There is no town by the Tower. So we put together a menu and big list of what to eat when we are there. Mostly eating off the BGE. Yeah!
Oh Cliff and I have entered Nathan's Selfie Contest. Do you think we can WIN?

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!
We are still in Sheridan Wy. The weather has been HOT and sunny. We have our air conditioners running all the time.
On the hill behind us this buck was hanging around all day.
This is a cool shot of the deer in the sage brush.
Here is another one of those brass sculptures that they have all over downtown.
Next week there is a Rodeo in town, I got us tickets for Thursday night show. It is the biggest Rodeo in the state. That should be fun.
The park has filled up for the weekend. The sites are pretty close together. Some people can not put their awnings out all the way.
There is a bunch of Harleys in the park, next week there is a HOG rally in town. I am not sure where the HOG rally is as there is no Harley dealer in town.
